Run the 'sudo yum install -y vsftpd' command at the terminal screen. This will install the Very Secure FTP Daemon (vsftpd) package necessary to enable the FTP service.
Start X Windows. Run 'system-config-firewall' and type in your root password if it asks you for one. Enable the FTP service. Click the 'Apply' button and confirm. Then enter your root password again if you are prompted to do so.
Run 'serviceconf' to bring up the Service Configuration utility. Click on 'vsftpd' and click 'Enable.' Type your root password if you are prompted to do so. Click 'start' to finish activating the FTP server. Alternately, type 'sudo service vsftpd restart' at the terminal screen.
Enable the FTP Service in Ubuntu Linux
Open a terminal screen and run the 'sudo apt-get install vsftpd' command. Type your password if you are prompted to do so.
Start X Windows. Open a terminal and then run 'sudo gedit /etc/vsftpd.conf' to bring up the text editor and the Very Secure Ftp Daemon configuration file. Find the line with 'anonymous_enable' and change the 'NO' to 'YES.' Save the file and then close the text editor program.
Type 'sudo service vsftpd restart' to enable the FTP server.

Login as root. Type '/usr/sbin/slackpkg install vsftpd.'
Run the 'vi /etc/inetd.conf.' Find the line that has 'vsftp' and remove the pound (#) mark at the beginning of that line. Alternately, in X Windows, run 'gedit /etc/inetd.conf' as root, find the vsftpd entry and remove the pound (#) mark at the start of that line.
Run the command '/etc/rc.d/rc.inetd restart' at the terminal window.

How to Telnet Into an HP PrinterIn Feburary 2016 16,
In Feburary 2016 16,
Launch Command Prompt on your computer by typing 'cmd' in Windows Search. If you haven't used Telnet before on a Windows 8 computer, you must install it first. To do this, open the terminal window with an admin account and type 'pkgmgr /iu:'TelnetClient' at the command prompt. Press 'Enter' and then confirm your decision as prompted.
In the text box, enter 'telnet <IP address>'. Replace the '<IP address>' with the IP of the HP printer.
Enter a user name and password for the telnet session. If this is a new setup, it is blank. You can set a user name and password to protect the machine from unauthorized telnet access. Enter 'passwd: <password>' to set a password on the telnet session after you've logged in for the first time.
Set the printer to log print jobs and errors. You can set the HP printer to store any messages to a text file on a local network computer. To set these configurations, enter the following commands:syslog-config: 1
syslog-svr: <local computer's IP address>
set-cmnty-name: <printer's SNMP password>The SNMP, or Simple Network Management Protocol, password is a separate password from the main telnet session. Replace '<local computer's IP address>' with the IP for the computer that stores the system logs.
Type 'IP <new_ip_address>' to change the IP for the HP printer. Once you change the IP address, you need to take note of the change to telnet to the printer a second time.
Close the telnet window and send a test print. This ensures that you've configured the settings properly and the IP address is found by the local network machines.

How to Install a WordPress Blog to an Amazon S3 CloudIn Feburary 2016 07,
In Feburary 2016 07,
Sign in to your Amazon Web Services account. If you do not have one yet, you can signup for free.
Click on 'Products' in the main navigation menu and then click the 'Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)' link. Choose a pricing plan, if desired, or proceed with the free tier. The free option is typically enough to handle a standard blog.
Enter your phone number on the verification page. Amazon will call the number and play through a recorded prompt which will ask you to enter a 4-digit PIN number displayed on the resulting page. Amazon uses this as a form of human verification to help combat fraud. When your PIN is accepted, the page will refresh to confirm your subscription. Click 'Continue,' then click 'Complete Sign-Up.'
Access your control panel by clicking on the 'Sign in to the AWS Management Console' link at the top of the Amazon Web Services page. Click the link to enter your EC2 Console Dashboard and select 'US West' from the region menu. Click on 'Launch Instance' to start up your server.
Click on the 'Microsoft AMIs' tab, enter 'Microsoft Web Platform' in the search field and hit 'Enter.' The resulting page will list the available images you can install. Select the WordPress image and follow the prompts to begin the installation. You will be asked to enter or select configuration details. It is recommended that you start with only one instance, and choose the 'small' instance type. When asked to configure your instance, leave the defaults set and continue to the next step.
Enter a name on the 'Create a Key Pair' page and click 'Create & Download Your Key Pair.' This file acts like a certificate in order to authenticate you to the S3 cloud. Store it in an easy-to-find and safe location on your computer.
Continue to the next step and click 'Create a new Security Group.' Select HTTP, HTTPS, MySQL, and RDP, and click 'Add Rule' for each. These settings allow you to administrate your server and Web space remotely, and for visitors to access your website. Continue to the next page and click 'Launch.' Click 'Close' on the confirmation page.
