How to Connect to an FTP SiteIn Feburary 2016 27,

In Feburary 2016 27,
Most public FTP sites don't require you to have an account, and instead allow you to log in anonymously. In most cases you won't be required to log in at all, while in others you must enter 'anonymous' as your username and your email address as your password. If the FTP site is restricted, which is often the case with commercial or university sites, you will be prompted to enter the username and password assigned to you by the site administrator.
Web Browser Access
Probably the simplest way to access an FTP site is with your Web browser. If you see a link to the FTP site on a Web page, just click the link. If you have only the FTP site address, enter it in your browser's address bar. Use the format ftp://ftp.domain.com. If the site requires a username or password, your browser prompts you for the information. Once you're at the site, click a folder to view its contents or click the link at the top of the page to go up a level. You can click a file to begin the download process. The main drawback to using your Web browser is that you can't upload files to the FTP site. For this, you will need an FTP client.
Windows File Explorer
If you use Windows, you already have an FTP client built into the operating system. File Explorer in Windows 8, or Windows Explorer in previous versions, doubles as both a file manager and an FTP client. Enter the FTP site address into the address bar using the format ftp://ftp.domain.com. Press 'Enter' to access the FTP site and views its files and directories. The advantage of using File Explorer is that you can drag and drop files to and from the FTP site. In addition, you can right-click anywhere in the right pane and select 'Add a Network Location' to begin a wizard that allows you to set up the FTP site as a permanent network drive.
Mac OS X
If you use a Mac, you can access an FTP site directly from a Finder window. Press 'Command-K' and then enter the FTP site address in the form ftp://ftp.gnu.org. OS X will open a new Finder window for the FTP site. You can drag files to and from the FTP site using this window.
Other FTP Clients
If you plan to do a lot of file transfers, or you need to manage several FTP sites, you may be better off using an FTP client application. FTP clients generally are made specifically for transferring files to and from FTP sites, and include features that often make them easier to use. Some of the free clients you can download include FileZilla, WinSCP and CyberDuck.
Command Line FTP
Although this method is seldom used, it's worth mentioning the command line. Back in the dark ages of the Internet, users connected with FTP sites by typing commands on a command line. You can still connect to FTP sites using the command line in Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, but it helps if you know your way around a Unix/Linux environment. Also, you may need to modify your computer's firewall or anti-virus software settings to enable proper communication with the FTP site when you use the command line.

How to Email a Large Microsoft Publisher FileIn Feburary 2016 24,

In Feburary 2016 24,
Browse to your saved Publisher file on your computer, but do not open it.
Right-click the file and choose 'Send to' from the menu.
Select 'Compressed (zipped) folder.' Publisher files often contain images, multiple fonts and formatting that increase the file size. Compression lets your computer store these items in a smaller package.
Hover your mouse pointer over the compressed/zipped file when the process completes. A window with the file's size should appear next to your pointer, and it will be less than the original file's size. If this is small enough to send, simply attach the compressed folder to your email and mail it as you normally would. Compression amounts vary according to file, so this may or may not shrink the file size enough for standard email.
Third-Party Senders
Visit a file transfer site that helps users send large emails, such as Pando, You Send It or Send This File (see Resources). Most file transfer sites offer free services for sending single files, and charge only for multiple files or faster delivery. However, some free services have size limits, so read the specifications carefully before choosing a service.
Browse to the Publisher file on your computer through the site's upload interface and upload your Publisher file into the system.
Enter your email recipient's address and your email address in the appropriate fields, and follow any other onscreen instructions to complete the process.
Notify your file's recipient in a separate email to expect the file, especially if that person is wary of downloading files from the Internet.

How Do I Back Up My Contacts on My Samsung Omnia? In Feburary 2016 14,

In Feburary 2016 14,
Your Samsung Omnia purchase included a USB data cable. Use this cable to connect your Pocket PC device to your desktop computer. The Windows Mobile Device Center software will automatically detect the presence of your Omnia and initiate the synchronization process. By default, Windows Mobile Device Center will attempt to synchronize your contacts, email, calendar, and tasks with those already in Microsoft Outlook. If your Omnia is ever broken or lost, you can sync a new device with Microsoft Outlook and regain all of your original contacts without any data loss. For added protection of your contacts, you can export your entire Outlook contact list into one archive file. By selecting the 'Import and Export' option in the Microsoft Outlook 'File' menu, you can follow the prompts to export all of your contacts into a single file that can then be saved onto a CD or DVD for external storage. This will further protect your contact list from any potential desktop computer failure or hard drive problems.

Open any FTP client. There are hundreds to choose from and you may already have one installed. Download a free client from FileZilla, WinSCP, gFTP or Cyberduck, among others.
Start a new connection if you've never connected to your web host through FTP. Each client is different, but the general process is the same. When you launch the FTP client a connection window will appear. If it doesn't, open the 'File' menu and look for 'New Connection...' or click the connect icon in the toolbar, if applicable.

Wait until the connection is established, then you'll see your WordPress files listed in the window. From here you can add or delete files as you need to. Use the toolbar icons to add or remove files or drag and drop them to and from your computer if your client software supports that.
Log out of your hosting account when you're done. There will either be a disconnect icon to click or just close the program.

How to Block an HTTPS ProxyIn Feburary 2016 09,

In Feburary 2016 09,
Select a web filter to install on your server. Filters such as Safe Squid, Wingate or Guardian Web Filter will identify proxy servers that attempt to identify your network, and will process those requests according to your instructions. Content filters, such as Allegro Surf, can also be used, by setting them to block the word 'proxy.'
Verify that your web filter is compatible with your operating software. Note that if your operating system is newer than the one required by the product, you will be able to use it; problems will occur, however, if you attempt to run a new product on an outdated operating system.
Install the software to your computer and select your options for how to process connections. Click on the option which checks the direct web access or use the firewall to allow only certain known sites. In the 'Web Filters' tab, enter names of the web pages that you want to block or ban. You can also name specific websites that you use for browsing. This prevents unwanted websites from hacking your information. It also stops redundant applications from downloading into your system.

The Best Website Hosts for Small BusinessIn Feburary 2016 05,

In Feburary 2016 05,
Your web host should be able to provide you with a clear pricing sheet for a complete hosting solution. Web hosting can be complex and many factors contribute to the type of hosting package you need. Before signing up for a hosting plan, it should be absolutely clear what your monthly price will be and what items may impact your pricing as your web site business grows. For example, some hosting companies limit how much bandwidth or data transfer you can use and charge very high overage fees for breaking those limits. Any change in pricing should be clearly laid out before you sign up.
Dedicated Support
Web hosting is a technical process that requires professional and knowledgeable support from your web hosting company. You should have access to support via a toll-free phone number as well as an easy-to-use online ticket system. Responses to your inquiries should happen promptly. Additionally, the best web hosting companies typically have live technical support via the toll-free number, available 24 hours a day. The hosting company should provide reliable service, and in the case that the server goes down, you need to know your web host will be able to address the problem as soon as possible.
Wide Array of Features
Small business web sites may need very little in terms of advanced features. However, your web host should be able to provide you access to more advanced features on demand as your site grows. For instance, you should have access to a database, secure server, control panel and web statistics to monitor your traffic should you need these items. In many cases, these items are already included in your hosting plan, or sometimes there may be additional fees to add these to your plan. It is important, though, to make sure your company has a wide array of features available to avoid having to transfer to a new host should you require any advanced features.
Go Direct
The best web hosting companies will own and operate their own data centers and servers. Sometimes, web hosting companies pose as being and independent company but are really just reselling another web hosting company’s services. This can cause delays when you are waiting for service items to be addressed. Why report a problem to a middle man when you could just report the problem to the source directly? Make sure that your hosting company is in control of their own servers and data centers; this control is crucial when it comes to addressing technical support inquiries and resolving problems.
