Companies eliminate the cost of acquiring and upgrading server hardware and software. Remote hosting makes it possible for hosting firms to offer volume discount pricing as well.
Expertise Leverage
The expensive and daunting task of hiring, training and retaining expert staff is shouldered by the remote hosting providers at their own expense. The internal staff is able to concentrate on core business demands.
Infrastructure Costs
Application hosting allows companies to take advantage of fully managed optimized networks. These remote networks usually have 24/7/365 technical support, dually redundant data center infrastructures and traffic re-routing services when there is a problem.
Examples of Application Hosting Servers
Microsoft Exchange server allows for all the productivity and collaboration benefits of Exchange with rapid scalable deployment.
SharePoint Server facilitates collaboration while offering content management services and business process implementation.
Web-Based ERP Solutions
These enable real-time work flow and real-time data availability from anywhere in the world.
An effective application hosting solution should allow for project, calendar and schedule coordination with the ability to connect through portals.

Dada Mail takes its name from the Dada art movement of the early 20th century, in which artists expressed themselves with no boundaries, conventions or rules. Dada Mail expresses this idea by providing users a wide range of capabilities in formatting and organizing their email newsletters. Dada Mail uses the open source scripting language Perl, which allows Perl programmers to add features to meet the company's needs. Businesses that do not have Perl experts on staff can still use the web-based interface to add, edit or delete features from the program.
Mailman
Mailman is a free software package used for handling email lists. Mailman uses a web-based interface, which makes it easier for users to control access to their accounts and for list owners to accomplish their tasks. Mailman includes features such as message archiving, content filtering, and automatic processing of 'bounce-back' messages that come from bad email addresses. The package also includes filters to block out unsolicited email advertisements, also known as spam. The software is written in the Python web scripting language, but includes some security modules in the C programming language.
OpenEMM
OpenEMM, which stands for Open E-Marketing Manager, is the first open source software platform designed specifically for email marketing. The first version was released in 1999 and has been used by high-profile companies such as IBM, Siemens and Deutsche Telekomm. OpenEMM inclues an intuitive user interface, advanced bad email address bounce-back management, a realtime statistics module and the ability to connect to a web-based content management system, such as WordPress and Drupal. (see reference 4)
PHPList
PHPList uses the popular and powerful PHP scripting language for its open source engine. The software is designed to connect to the free MySQL database management system for the administration of the user's mailing list data. PHPList gives list administrators the ability to tracks links and URLs embedded in the email messages and compiles statistics by message, URL and subscriber. Businesses of nearly every size can use the software, as it is scaleable to up to 100,000 subscribers.
