SCP vs. FTP SpeedIn Feburary 2016 30,

In Feburary 2016 30,
Comparing SCP and FTP is a bit uneven, because SCP has been designed to work within the same network, and FTP is an Internet protocol designed for use on remote servers. FTP also tends to be used for moving multiple files; while you can use wildcards to transfer multiple files or copy entire directories in SCP, that's not the most common use for it. All in all, SCP and FTP are about evenly matched in speed when compared on the same network and with the same file; but your mileage may vary depending on the size of the files you're transferring and the way your network is configured. Your use of command flags may change files as well; Chris Dillon, software developer and writer of the tech blog Squarism uses '-c arcfour' to speed up the SCP transfer in his testing.
Security
An SCP transfer is an individual transfer -- you use 'scp' in a terminal to copy your files or directory to the other computer, without any frills or other options. It's a one-time movement, as opposed to FTP. With FTP you log in to an FTP session and can not only copy files from your computer, but can also manage files on the remote computer. This includes the ability to rename, delete, move, and modify files from the remote computer. SCP is a secure transfer; it uses secure shell to encrypt both your data and credentials. FTP does not offer protection against anyone who may be trying to view your network credentials.
Use
SCP is a Unix command designed to be used from the terminal. FTP is more flexible in that you can use it either in a terminal or using a graphic program such as WinSCP for Filezilla. You can also use FTP in a terminal, though this isn't common among casual Internet users. Should you choose to use the terminal, you'll need to look up FTP commands. For the most part they're very similar to basic commands – for instance, to transfer a file from your computer to the remote location you would use 'put test.file.'
Alternatives
The major benefit to SCP is the security; the benefit to FTP is the control over your destination. If neither quite meets your needs, a potential solution is SFTP, which was built using both FTP and SSH — secure shell — to create a protocol that's secure and allows you to control your destination area. In terms of speed, you're not going to see any major difference between FTP and SFTP; if anything, SFTP is going to be slower due to the need to secure your transfer. SFTP is also going to be slower than SCP. SFTP can be used in the terminal or in software designed for the task, the same as FTP.

How to Make a Website With VPSIn Feburary 2016 27,

In Feburary 2016 27,
Choose a name you would like to use as the URL, also called domain name, for your web site. Verify that the name is available by using the free service at Network Solutions.
Open your browser window. Type 'VPS Hosting' into the search bar of your favorite search engine. Research available plans from the VPS providers listed in the search. Determine how many gigabytes of disk space and bandwidth you will require along with how much you would like to spend on hosting per month. Sign up for the hosting plan of your choice and make any required payments.
Research the Internet for any necessary software programs needed to create the web site such as an HTML editor or WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor and image editor. Download the programs to your computer.
Create any images including a header, background, banners and buttons that will be used on your website with your image editor.
Open your page editing program. Choose a color scheme that will be used for your site. Add a header image which includes your domain name to the top of your site. Include additional images, text and links in the body. Save your work.
Connect to your VPS by entering your username, password, and IP address into the proper fields of the FTP portion of your web page editor. Upload your web site using the 'Publish' feature. Test your web site by entering the URL into your browsers address window. Check that all links function properly.
Provide your friends and family with a link to your web site. Use social media such as Twitter and Facebook to invite your contacts. Increase traffic to your web site by adding the URL to the footer of your email, leaving comments on other web sites and submitting the link to search engines.

Open Source Email Marketing ToolsIn Feburary 2016 21,

In Feburary 2016 21,
Dada Mail takes its name from the Dada art movement of the early 20th century, in which artists expressed themselves with no boundaries, conventions or rules. Dada Mail expresses this idea by providing users a wide range of capabilities in formatting and organizing their email newsletters. Dada Mail uses the open source scripting language Perl, which allows Perl programmers to add features to meet the company's needs. Businesses that do not have Perl experts on staff can still use the web-based interface to add, edit or delete features from the program.
Mailman
Mailman is a free software package used for handling email lists. Mailman uses a web-based interface, which makes it easier for users to control access to their accounts and for list owners to accomplish their tasks. Mailman includes features such as message archiving, content filtering, and automatic processing of 'bounce-back' messages that come from bad email addresses. The package also includes filters to block out unsolicited email advertisements, also known as spam. The software is written in the Python web scripting language, but includes some security modules in the C programming language.
OpenEMM
OpenEMM, which stands for Open E-Marketing Manager, is the first open source software platform designed specifically for email marketing. The first version was released in 1999 and has been used by high-profile companies such as IBM, Siemens and Deutsche Telekomm. OpenEMM inclues an intuitive user interface, advanced bad email address bounce-back management, a realtime statistics module and the ability to connect to a web-based content management system, such as WordPress and Drupal. (see reference 4)
PHPList
PHPList uses the popular and powerful PHP scripting language for its open source engine. The software is designed to connect to the free MySQL database management system for the administration of the user's mailing list data. PHPList gives list administrators the ability to tracks links and URLs embedded in the email messages and compiles statistics by message, URL and subscriber. Businesses of nearly every size can use the software, as it is scaleable to up to 100,000 subscribers.

How to use 'Internet radio hosting' to make you a radio starIn Feburary 2016 17,

In Feburary 2016 17,
If you would like to get into streaming your audio over the internet you will need to make sure you have a reliable Internet radio hosting plan. These can be provided by numerous and well known hosting companies such as 'live365.com'. If you are more familiar how to set things up in a technical fashion (or are willing to learn) you can use your own computers and local isp account for streaming purposes and use the well know and reputable software of 'shoutcast'.
Perhaps classical music internet radio would be a distinct way for you to present. With this or any musical genre which you decide to stream, you will also need to make sure you obey all the applicable laws of your country concerning such. Many fees are anticipated to be directed to companies such as ASCAP, BMI and others in order to have permission rights in airing / streaming your music. This is why many suggest airing independent music artists more commonly known as indie artists. In most cases independent artists are quite willing for you to stream their music with no reimbursement desired. You may even want to consider doing a radio program of simply talk. This will relieve many of the worries of the music streaming costs.
Digressing there for a moment into some of the other aspects let us get back to the main thought here of Internet radio hosting. The summary of this is that you can indeed use your own computers and internet service provider ( isp) connection to host your programming with the many expenses that you will have to check out and cover yourself or you can opt for one of the online radio hosting company plans which cover the headaches of working the details for you. Have fun being the next radio star as others surf on in to view you.

Your Samsung Omnia purchase included a USB data cable. Use this cable to connect your Pocket PC device to your desktop computer. The Windows Mobile Device Center software will automatically detect the presence of your Omnia and initiate the synchronization process. By default, Windows Mobile Device Center will attempt to synchronize your contacts, email, calendar, and tasks with those already in Microsoft Outlook. If your Omnia is ever broken or lost, you can sync a new device with Microsoft Outlook and regain all of your original contacts without any data loss. For added protection of your contacts, you can export your entire Outlook contact list into one archive file. By selecting the 'Import and Export' option in the Microsoft Outlook 'File' menu, you can follow the prompts to export all of your contacts into a single file that can then be saved onto a CD or DVD for external storage. How to Make a Proxy WebsiteIn Feburary 2016 12,

In Feburary 2016 12,
Open an account at a web host that allows proxy websites. Many hosting companies do not allow proxies because they can generate a large amount of traffic that overloads the servers. Those that do allow proxy websites will typically prefer that you have a Virtual Private Server (VPS) or a dedicated server. Most hosts do not allow web proxies on a shared server.
Obtain a copy of PHProxy. This script acts as the software to power your proxy site. PHProxy is available free of charge, so anyone can make a proxy website without spending a lot of money.
Log into the control panel for your web hosting account. Create a MySQL database that will be used by the PHProxy script. Make note of the database name, user name and password that is associated with the database. This information is needed to configure the script to communicate with the database.
Edit the config.php file that is included with the script. Open the file with a HTML editor so that you can edit the contents of the file and save the new copy. Use Windows Notepad if you do not have a HTML editor. Simply open the file, edit the website name, website address, database name, database user name and database password. Save the file after the information has been edited.
Use an FTP program to upload all of the files to your hosting account. You can download a free copy of Filezilla FTP if you do not already have a program. Simply upload all of the files and folders included with PHProxy to your web hosting account. Your proxy website should now be operational.
Read the documentation that is included with PHProxy. Follow the instructions in the documentation to customize your script, such as changing colors, page layout or other visual elements. This will help you make a FTP website that stands out.

How to Create Host a WebsiteIn Feburary 2016 07,

In Feburary 2016 07,
Start with a pen and paper and sketch out a site map. The map should begin with the website's home page and branch out from there. It is similar in structure to an organization chart that shows the hierarchy of a corporation. The home page is the CEO and the other pages on the site are employees.
Still using pen and paper, sketch out what the web pages will look like. Decide what elements, such as text, images and video need to be on the pages and where each element will go.
Gather the images, text, video and other elements to be placed on the page together in one place in one folder.
Choose web design software. Adobe Dreamweaver is the industry standard for professional web page design, but there are many free or inexpensive web design programs, such as NVU Open Source Web Builder and WYSIWYG Web Builder Five, which can be downloaded at no cost. These programs are fine for building personal websites.
Working from the initial sketch, lay out the web pages that comprise the site using the web design software. Start with the home page of the site, which must be named 'Index.html.' Other pages on the site can have any name the creator wants.
Using the site map as a guide, make sure the pages of the site are linked together so that users can get from one page to another.
Preview the site in multiple web browsers. The site should appear as it looks when viewed with the web design software. If any page does not look the same in a browser as it does when viewed with the web design software, edit the page until the problem is solved.
Hosting a Website
Register a domain name at Register.com or a similar service.
Decide what kind of web hosting package is needed. Prices range from around seven dollars a month for basic service to thirty dollars a month for multiple website hosting with unlimited storage.
Purchase a hosting package.
Follow the instructions provided by the hosting company to move the completed website to the host servers.

Setting Up a Proxy Server in LinuxIn Feburary 2016 07,

In Feburary 2016 07,
Proxy servers help provide access to blocked websites, allow users to browse websites anonymously and are an easy way to make some extra money for aspiring webmasters. However, before you can begin using your proxy server, you will need to set one up. Many webmasters choose Linux as a base for a proxy server because it is a versatile, free, open-source operating system that can be used to support numerous variants of software. Linux is also used on the majority of web servers, whether they have proxies or not.
Server Requirements
The first conditions you are going to need in order to set up a proxy server on Linux is a high amount of bandwidth and a good server where the software will be installed. Without a high amount of bandwidth, you will not be able to support the constant use of your server. Also, if you do not have hardware that can respond to user requests quickly, proxy server users will look elsewhere.
Proxy Server Choices
There are several options when it comes to what script you will use for your Linux server. Several scripts that are commonly used include Glype, CGI proxy and PHP proxy. Each script has its pros and cons; however, Glype is the most commonly used out of all three. Some of the advantages to Glype include its easy installation--you literally upload a few files and have a functional proxy. Also, Glype is open source, like Linux, a major advantage in the online community.CGI proxy is much more resource intensive than Glype and also does not offer the ability to browse secured websites. PHP proxy is a lightweight solution for your proxy server and is also open source. Whether you end up choosing Glype, CGI proxy or PHP proxy, each program comes with easy installation instructions and is very simple to set up on your proxy server.
Proxy Server Setup
Most of the programs involve downloading the source code for the programs, uploading the files via FTP and possibly changing the permissions for some of the files. However, nearly every program does not require anything more difficult than that. Once you have the files uploaded, you might need to run an installation script, depending on which proxy program you chose. Make sure that you delete the installation folder of your proxy after you have installed; leaving it online may allow your proxy to be reset.
Conclusion
Setting up a proxy on a Linux server is not difficult. You simply need a domain name, FTP account, proxy program and some technical knowledge. Once you have determined which proxy program you are going to use, simply upload and install it following the specific program's instructions, and you will be ready to use a proxy that will be able to help you browse the web anonymously.

Types of Server SoftwareIn Feburary 2016 03,

In Feburary 2016 03,
The most familiar type of server software serves a series of files on a computer onto the web in the form of a website. It is able to do this using the HyperText Transfer Protocol, or HTTP, a method through which web browsers request data from web servers and web servers respond with the data: usually a combination of HTML files and images. Popular web servers include Apache and Microsoft IIS.
FTP Server Software
While web servers use the HTTP, FTP servers use the File Transfer Protocol, which is the most common method for rapidly transferring large files across a network. FTP server software works in conjunction with FTP client software, programs designed for users doing the transferring. Common FTP servers and clients include Filezilla and Crush FTP.
Mail Server Software
Mail servers are programs that allow you to send and receive email. Unlike web or FTP servers, mail servers often use three different common protocols: SMTP (the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol), POP (the Post Office Protocol) and IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol). POP and IMAP are used primarily for receiving mail, while SMTP can be used for sending or receiving. Common mail servers include Eudora and Mercury Mail.
Database Server Software
Database servers, as the title suggests, serve databases over a network. Databases provide content to the web: they can contain anything from articles to numbers to a member or product directory. Data server capability is often wrapped inside a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), a set of programs that aid in the creation and maintenance of databases. Common RDBMSes include Oracle and MySQL.
Miscellaneous Server Software
Since a server is defined as any program that connects files to a network, servers don't necessarily have to aid in creating websites. iTunes and other audio programs use music servers that stream music between computers. Online games such as World of Warcraft use dozens of servers that allow users to log on and play. Instant messenging programs (with the exception of peer-to-peer programs, which cut out the server as a middle man) use servers as well.
