Progress Bar TutorialIn Feburary 2016 26,

In Feburary 2016 26,
As an operation proceeds, the code continuously reads how much is completed and calculates the status. If the Minimum value is set to one and the Maximum to 100, the bar will fill half the bar display when 50 percent of the operation is completed. To perform this calculation, the programmer must know how long the operation will take. As an example, if the user is downloading a five MB file, by the time 2.5 MB have downloaded, the bar will have moved halfway across.
Create a Progress Bar
Start by creating a new project after opening Visual Basic. Click on 'File,' 'New Project' and select the 'Standard EXE' format. Add the ProgressBar control by clicking on 'Project,' 'Components.' Find the Microsoft Windows Common Controls in the list. Choose the Microsoft Visual Basic Common Controls (SP6) by placing a checkmark in the box next to the control. Click on 'Apply' and 'OK.' You should see the control in the list in the left panel. Double click on this to add it to the form.
Set the Properties
If working with an operation where the percentage of completion is easy to calculate like a file download, set the Minimum property in the Properties panel to '1' and the maximum to '100.' Another way to set the maximum is to have the code count the number of iterations of some operation, compare this to the total number, and calculate where the bar should be. Height and Left properties control the height of the bar itself and where it appears from the left of the screen. Only two other properties matter: Whether the bar runs across the screen vertically or horizontally and whether incremental chunks appear or the bar is smoother. Choose these from the 'Orientation' and 'Scrolling Properties.' If the maximum cannot be predetermined, it is possible to use an Animation control to keep the bar moving until the operation completes. This enhancement goes beyond the level of this tutorial. Since the bar should not appear until an operation commences, set the Visible property to 'False.' For this example, set the Maximum property to '10000' and leave the Minimum at '0.' Finally, add a Command Button control from the Tools list to the form to initiate action. Change the (Name) property to 'btnStart' and the Caption to 'Start.'
Write the Code
Click on 'View,' 'Code' to open the programming window. Type the lines below exactly as shown. The first three lines load the form and make the Progress Bar visible. The rest of the code runs through a repetitive sequence to demonstrate the bar. The end number in this code is set very high to slow the Progress Bar down for visibility. Replace the steps in the second section beginning with 'Private Sub btnStart_Click() and ending 'End Sub' with whatever event you are timing to get a new ProgressBar1.Value. Always add a command to change the visibility of the bar to 'False' when the routine finishes.Private Sub Form_Load()
ProgressBar1.Visible = True
End SubPrivate Sub btnStart_Click()
Dim n As Integer
For n = 1 To 10000
ProgressBar1.Value = n
Next n
End SubTest the code by pressing the 'F5' key.
Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition Version
In the Visual Basic 2008, substitute the following lines for the lines beginning Private Sub:Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal eventSender As System.Object, ByVal eventArgs As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Private Sub btnStart_Click(ByVal eventSender As System.Object, ByVal eventArgs As System.EventArgs) Handles btnStart.Click

How to Add Columns to GridViewIn Feburary 2016 05,

In Feburary 2016 05,
Open Visual Studio. Click 'File' and select 'New Website.'
Click 'Visual C#,' and then double-click 'ASP.NET Website' to create a new website. The markup code for the default Web page appears in the center of the Visual Studio window.
Click the 'Design' button at the bottom of the window to view the form designer.
Click 'File' and select 'Toolbox.' Visual Studio will display the toolbox.
Scroll down and locate the 'GridView' control. Double-click that control to place it on the form.
Press 'F7.' The source code window will open and display this code:protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){}This is the page load method. It runs when the Web page loads in a browser. Note the two bracket symbols below the first line of code.
Add this code between the two bracket symbols:// Lines 1-5System.Data.DataTable dataSourceTable = new System.Data.DataTable();dataSourceTable.Columns.Add(new System.Data.DataColumn('Model', typeof(string)));dataSourceTable.Columns.Add(new System.Data.DataColumn('Make', typeof(string)));dataSourceTable.Columns.Add(new System.Data.DataColumn('Color', typeof(string)));dataSourceTable.Rows.Add(originalColumnValues);// Line 6GridView1.AutoGenerateColumns = false;// Line 7GridView1.DataSource = dataSourceTable;The first five lines create a data source containing three fields: Model, Make and Color. Line six sets the GridView's 'AutoGenerateColumns' property to false. This prevents the GridView from generating columns automatically when you bind it to a data source. Line seven binds the GridView to the data source. At this point, the GridView displays no columns.
Add the following code below the code described in the previous step:/ Lines 8-12BoundField boundField = new BoundField();boundField.DataField = 'Make';boundField.HeaderText = 'Ford';DataControlField dataControlField = boundField;GridView1.Columns.Add(dataControlField);// Lines 13 = 17boundField = new BoundField();boundField.DataField = 'Model';boundField.HeaderText = 'Mustang';dataControlField = boundField;GridView1.Columns.Add(dataControlField);// Line 18GridView1.DataBind();Lines eight through 12 create a bound field. This field references the data source's 'Make' field. Line 10 assigns a value of 'Ford' to the bound field. You can make this value anything you like. This is the value that appears in the new column. Line 12 adds the bound field to the GridView. Lines13 through 17 create another bound field. This bound field references the data source's 'Model' field and sets its text value to 'Mustang.' Line 18 binds the GridView to the data source.
Press 'F5' to run the application. Your Web browser will open and display the GridView and the columns you added.

How to Put a Website on a CDIn Feburary 2016 04,

In Feburary 2016 04,
Create a new folder and name it 'website'. You can change the name of the folder later, if necessary.
Download and install an FTP client. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, and allows for the rapid exchange of files across the Internet. Many free options exist: two of the most popular ones, FileZilla and Classic FTP (see Resources below), work on both Windows and Macintosh computers.
Open the FTP client. There will be a 'Connect' or 'Quick Connect' option at the top through which you can connect to a Web server, a section showing the file directories of your computer, and a section that will show the file directories of any server you connect to. Navigate to the empty 'website' folder on your computer and double-click it.
Access your Web site's files with the connection form. Under 'host', type 'ftp://yoursitename.com' (in general, replace the 'http://' command you would use with a Web browser with the 'ftp://' command). In the 'Username' and 'Password' boxes, type the login information you use to log in to your web host's control panel. If there's a 'Port' option, leave it blank and press Enter. The file directory of your Web site will soon show up in the right boxes.
Highlight everything in the large box on the right by clicking once anywhere inside it and pressing CTRL+A (or Command+A on a Mac), which will 'Select All.' Drag the selection to the box to the left, which should have your 'website' folder open. Your files will queue up and begin to transfer one at a time; wait until everything finishes.
If your Web site uses a database, you also have to copy that information. Log in to your web host's control panel and access the 'Databases' or 'MySQL' option. Select any database that appears, or select an 'edit database' option until a phpMyAdmin window pops up.
Select a database folder on the left, then click the 'Export' tab on the top. Scroll to the bottom. Check off the 'Save as File' box, then press 'Go.' The database will be downloaded to your computer. Repeat this step for every database you have on your site.
Insert a blank CD into your CD drive. Open a 'Computer' or 'My Computer' window on a PC, or a new Finder window on a Mac, and then select your CD drive. Drag your 'website' folder and your database downloads into the window, then select the 'Write' or 'Burn' option.

How to Change Web Hosting Service ProvidersIn Feburary 2016 01,

In Feburary 2016 01,
Do your homework when deciding which host to move your website to. Moving your site to a new host is a lot of work so you don't want to have to do it too often. Choose a new web host that offers room for expansion if your business grows.
Give yourself plenty of time to make the change over to the new host. Even though it means one month of double expenses, it is a good idea to start services with your new host one month before discontinuing services with your old host. This will give you 30 days to work out any problems at the new site.
Pack up your business at your current hosting site by making copies of all of your web pages and files on CD. Arrange to have services you were using and don't need any more to be disconnected at the end of the month.
Notify your domain name registrar of your move. This is the company that you registered your ecommerce site name with. They need to know the domain name and IP address for both your old web host and your new one.
Set up your site at your new web host by uploading all of the pages and files you packed onto CD. Start any new services that you need in your new home.
Notify your customers of your new email address if it changed when you moved to the new hosting site. Set up mail forwarding with your new web host to ensure that any mail sent to your old email address will be forwarded.
