List of Free FTP ServersIn Feburary 2016 27,

In Feburary 2016 27,
Webfreehosting provides an all-encompassing, free package that includes email accounts, web hosting and an FTP service. Account holders get 300MB of storage space, can transfer up to 10GB of files per month, and receive an impressive collection of other options related to website hosting.
DriveHQ
DriveHQ offers online storage and FTP access with a familiar look and feel. Windows users are comfortable with the naming convention of the folders such as 'My Documents,' 'My Music' and 'My Pictures.' While DriveHQ offers a paid subscription, they do include two levels of free service. The first level is called the 'Free Account.' These users are mainly restricted to uploading and downloading files. The 'True Account' is the second level and is attained when the member's information can be verified. The main difference between the two is that 'Free Account' members cannot publish files, folders or a website (publishing shares them out to anyone on the Internet). Both account types have an upload file size limit of 50MB and the ability to transfer files by dragging them from the computer onto the DriveHQ website to transfer them. A traditional FTP access using third-party software is available, although they do recommend using their own software designed for use with their service.
WebNG
WebNG is a feature-rich, one-stop-shop for free web hosting. The features include direct FTP access as well as web-based FTP access (for when an FTP client or program is not available), 350MB of storage space, no ads, photo albums and support, and 323MB of daily bandwidth usage. When transferring files, there is a 25MB file size limit. WebNG also offers an incentive package that increases your usable bandwidth when you refer others to the website.

How to Build a ServerIn Feburary 2016 18,

In Feburary 2016 18,
Find an old computer that you have around the house. Minor upgrades may be necessary. An alternative is to use your active computer as a part-time server. There are sites that suggest minimum specs for a server, but depending on your immediate purpose and budget, any computer can be turned into a server and upgraded as necessary. The key is proper cooling (fans) and keeping the inside clean (blowing out the dust). Web designers and programmers who wish to develop a local server may use their active computers and skip to the server software steps.
Choose a server operating system to install: Windows, Linux or FreeBSD. The last two are open source and cost nothing. However, installation will be unfamiliar for those with Windows experience. Using Windows XP is not advised due to the extra resources and processes that are required to run these operating systems.
Insert the Windows Server software disc and restart the computer to begin installation. Windows Server OS setup is identical to installation of Windows XP, which requires minimal input from the user. Make sure that you set the regional options correctly. Date, time and language selection are necessary to the proper operation of your server.
Installing Server Software
Install your Server Software after OS install is complete. If you've chosen Windows Home Server, then this process is already complete and you may log in to access the control panel. If you've chosen to go with Linux or BSD, then choosing server software is necessary. AppServ is known to be reliable and easy to use. Linux users may like Ubuntu software.
Download and install Appserv or Ubuntu. For server machines built without a disk drive, the use of flash USB drives for installation is an alternative option.
Configure your server by filling in proper information. Your server will be localhost or 127.0.0.1.
Fill in your Admin email. This can be changed later, so it is preferable to fill in an existing email such as 'yourname@msn.com'.
Leave the default HTTP port at 80. For most of your purposes, defaults will not need to be changed. The server name (localhost) and the server port (80) are primary defaults. If you are behind a firewall or router, then you will need to adjust the settings to allow for access.
Choose a password for your MySQL database. The default username is 'root' and cannot be changed at this time. This can be changed later when logging in to the database for the first time and should be for security reasons.
Test your server. Open a browser window and type in 'http://localhost/'. The default welcome site should appear. If you have any problems, review the steps to ensure that you have correctly configured the server.

Can I Work on WordPress Offline?In Feburary 2016 11,

In Feburary 2016 11,
Users may want to work with WordPress offline for several reasons. One use for offline WordPress is as a test environment. An offline, local installation of WordPress offers a safe, easily restored environment to test changes to the WordPress installation, such as code implementation or layout testing.
Local Server
WordPress can run on any computer that supports PHP scripting language and MySQL databases. Windows, Mac and Linux machines can all be configured to support this environment. Once enabled, users can install the WordPress web application and then access this installation from their local machine. Local server installations work exactly like online WordPress installations, except instead of typing an Internet URL to access the WordPress installation, users enter their local hostname or http://127.0.0.1 address to point to the installation.
Desktop Blogging Clients
Desktop blogging clients allow users to draft posts offline, though most other administrative functions must still be done via an online connection to the WordPress installation. WordPress-compatible desktop blogging clients include Windows Live Writer, BlogDesk and Qumana. Features vary between desktop clients, but most include post creation, categorization and tagging. More advanced desktop clients may allow a user to manage other aspects of her blog, such as creating local backups.
Maintenance Mode
Users who want to take their WordPress site offline but still work with the backend have the option of installing a plugin that will put the WordPress site in maintenance mode. Maintenance mode will close the site to incoming user connections but allow administrators and other authorized users access to the live site. Though not truly working offline, enabling maintenance mode is a viable alternative for users who only need to take WordPress offline temporarily.

The Advantages of DB2In Feburary 2016 08,

In Feburary 2016 08,
DB2 has a more powerful Structured Query Language (SQL) dialect than Microsoft’s SQL offering. DB2 has features such as object tables, before triggers, Java method support, multiple user-defined functions and support for arrays. None of these features are supported by MS SQL. SQL allows direct access to the data via the database management interface of DB2. It also can be imbedded in the code of application programs written in other languages, such as COBOL and Java. This flexibility and feature list combine to make DB2 a powerful relational database management system.
Multiple Platform Support
IBM produces versions of DB2 that run on all available platforms, rather than just Windows-based platforms. Included in the DB2 list of supported platforms are AIX, HP-UX, Linux and Sun. This ability to run on a variety of hardware/software platforms brings a flexibility to the table that other database engines do not offer. IBM also offers DB2 as part of a pre-configured bundle along with the operating system. This combination produces better performance since the operating system is configured for DB2 database support out of the box, saving the system administrator time.
Self-Tuning Memory Management
Database tuning is part art and part science, and normally takes a significant amount of a database administrator's time. Part of this configuration job entails configuring memory for the various workloads to achieve the best performance. During the day access is typically via online applications, with random access to records across the database. At night, the workload typically changes to a batch format, with sequential processing of records being the norm. DB2 Version 9 offers a feature called Self-tuning Memory Management (STMM), which allows the database to automatically change the memory allocation when there is a change in the workload. This optimizes performance by making adjustments on the fly to the database memory and buffer pools with no requirement for human intervention..
IBM Support
A major advantage of DB2 is that it is an IBM offering. Developed many years ago at IBM’s database labs, DB2 has gained feature after feature over the years. IBM produces software updates and patches on a controlled basis after thorough testing. IBM’s high-quality software support is a factor in DB2’s popularity, along with the system stability that results from that support. IBM’s research and development dollars continue to improve the product making DB2 an ideal choice for a RDBMS.
