How to Plan a SwimIn Feburary 2016 30,

In Feburary 2016 30,
Contact USA Swimming. Prior to hosting a Swim-a-Thon, your organization must complete a contract with USA Swimming that states certain conditions to follow. Once the contract is completed, you will receive a handbook about how to host a successful Swim-a-Thon, with forms and promotional materials. Swim-a-Thon is a registered trademark that is owned by USA Swimming.
Select date and location. Once you have a contract signed with USA Swimming, seek out a location to have the Swim-a-Thon. City, county and school pools may offer facilities for a small fee or free if used for fundraising events. Compare calendars with venues and pick a date to hold the event.
Hand out fliers. Use the promotional materials provided by USA Swimming to promote participation in your Swim-a-Thon. Hand out these items to members of your organization and others who would be interested in participating. Make sure to include the date, time and location of the event, instructions on how to collect pledges and your contact information.
Plan your Swim-a-Thon for an entire afternoon, offering different activities to encourage spectators to come out and watch. Collect donations from local businesses, such as gift certificates, gift baskets or merchandise that can be raffled. Offer food to spectators from a concession stand operated by volunteers or find a food vendor to set up during the event. Other activities for spectators can include music by a DJ and games for kids, such as water balloon toss, sidewalk chalk art and a sprinkler play area.
Give out awards. At the end of the Swim-a-Thon, offer awards to all participants and top performers. Hand out ribbons for participating, raising the most money and swimming the most laps.
Collect pledges. Once participants have completed the Swim-a-Thon event, have then collect money from friends and family who pledged. Give participants one week, or other amount of time you are comfortable with, to collect the money and turn it in to you.
Send out thank you notes. Write up a thank you note to send to each participant for helping raise money for your organization. If addresses are available, send thank you notes to those who donated to the Swim-a-Thon, such as vendors, friends and family.

How to Set Up a Purchase Order System for a Small BusinessIn Feburary 2016 27,

In Feburary 2016 27,
Examine why you want to institute a purchase order system. You might be having problems with vendors shipping the wrong materials and supplies or not delivering them on time. You might have suppliers who won’t ship you items without pre-payment if they don’t have a written purchase document. Or you simply might want to prevent fraud or errors.
Choose Who Will Be Invovled
Decide who needs to be involved in setting up your purchase order system. Start with your accountant or bookkeeper, if you have one. Review your bank and credit card statements to see who makes the most purchases during a month. Depending on the size of your business, include management and staff members who will have to use the new system. If you won't be doing the work yourself, put one person in charge of the project and give him the authority to designate project tasks to other staff members. You might consider creating a small committee to handle the task.
Include one or two vendors or suppliers who will be asked to accept your purchase orders.
Set Policies
Spell out the circumstance under which employees can make purchases and who can make purchases.
This will limit who can use and transmit a purchase order. Consider creating a list of approved vendors who will accept your purchase orders so you can increase your ability to control costs and quality. This eliminates the problem of having to pass frequent vendor credit checks when making purchases.
Develop Your Forms
Purchase orders are the forms that become the center of your purchase order system. Create forms employees can use that allow you, a bookkeeper or accounting department to easily input purchase orders into a financial document for later reference. The form should include items such as the following:
name of your company, address and contact information
department requesting the purchase
person who approved it
item being purchased
item cost per unit
number of units ordered
total cost without tax
tax amount
total amount with tax
the vendor
purchase order number
date requested
date of delivery
Your form should allow you to run reports by vendor, department or item to quickly find out how much the company is spending in certain areas. Each document should have a purchase order number for easy reference when you contact a vendor or supplier or vice versa.
Solicit Input
Once you’ve created the first draft of your new purchase order, ask the people who must use it for their feedback. Explain why you are instituting the system and
provide examples of how accounting will use the system. Ask your vendors and suppliers what they think of your form, and if they have any additions they’d like you to make.
Communicate The New System
After you have used the recommendations and feedback you've received to create your final purchase order and procedures for using it, communicate the information to everyone who will be involved. Put the information in writing and send a copy to each staff member. Have them sign a document stating that they’ve received, read and understand the document.

How to Repair a Frost Free Yard HydrantIn Feburary 2016 27,

In Feburary 2016 27,
Adjust the hydrant seals. Worn linkages can cause a leak by not properly forcing the rubber shut off assembly into the valve seat. If the handle is nearly all the way down before you feel resistance caused by the plunger hitting the valve seat this may be the problem. Simply adjusting the mechanism at the top of the valve stem to extend it slightly might solve the problem. Make the adjustments in small increments to avoid damaging the valve assembly.
Repair the hydrant. Often the cause of a leaking hydrant is worn or damaged gaskets or seals in the valve assembly. These components can often be replaced without digging up the valve assembly.
Find a supplier for your brand of hydrant. Most hardware stores will have supplies as will well drillers in your area. Unless you can leave the hydrant dissembled for several days you will want to get replacement parts before starting work.
Unscrew the head assembly from the riser pipe. This might be difficult since it has likely been outside for many years and may be rusted tight. Liberal use of penetrating oil, hammer tapping, and long handles on the pipe wrenches can all help.
Pull up the connector rod. The seals and valve mechanism should come with it.
Inspect and replace those components that seem worn or deteriorated.
Reinsert the valve assembly and thread the head assembly onto the riser pipe. Be sure to use pipe dope on the threads and seals to aid in sealing.
Adjust the plunger seating pressure as noted above.

Guide to Hosting Car ShowsIn Feburary 2016 26,

In Feburary 2016 26,
First, decide on the type of car show you want to hold. Some car shows welcome the general public to show their cars, while others invite certain car dealers exclusively. If you decide to invite only dealers, you can make a list of dealers who sell the types of cars you want to show and send invitation letters to only those dealers. There are endless numbers of themes that car shows can have, including antique cars, modified cars and unrestored cars. Once you've picked a type of car show, you need to advertise as much as possible, both to get participants in the show and to get the general public to come and look at the cars you're showing.
Venue
You need a venue to hold your car show. You should check with the venue to see if you need to fill out any paperwork or if there are any special rules or restrictions or permits that you might need to obtain. If the venue is small, you will probably need to limit the number of cars you can show. If this is the case, consider that parking spaces are about 10 feet by 20 feet, so you can measure the space to determine how many cars you can allow. Remember that in addition to space for the cars you're showing, you will need space for vendor tables and people to walk around, and you'll also need access to power outlets, extension cords or speaker systems in order to run the show effectively. You'll also want to check with the venue to see if there will be bathrooms, garbage or other amenities available.Work with the venue and the people involved in the show to establish rules for the day, such as how close people can get to the cars, whether there will be food and drink allowed, how long the show will last, etc., and post the rules in the venue.
Personnel
Hosting a car show is a very big job and you will want to recruit some volunteers to help you. Tasks that you might want to assign to volunteers the day of the show include site set up and clean up, checking in cars, walking them to their parking spaces, directing traffic and making announcements.
Activities
You may choose to include activities in your car show, such as voting for best car in several classes. Whatever activities you include, make sure you have adequate supplies such as voting sheets, favors and prizes. Many car shows give out trophies to the owners of the best cars.

How Do Web Databases Work?In Feburary 2016 24,

In Feburary 2016 24,
Web databases work differently than static databases, limited to one computer or a LAN network where the reference documents and other data does not change location. A web database is a dynamic website that indexes searchable information (either on the same website or to external web pages). Most web databases point to other sites. A typical web database will point to pages that have been deleted, altered or moved to another location. The creator or user of a web database has no control over the external pages referenced or linked to. Because of this non-static nature of the Internet, web database administrators attempt to keep on top of data changes and links to external pages. This is especially true with links to pages that have moved or vanished from the web. Metasites, which contain only links to other web sites, primarily search engines, tend to organize their databases in small hierarchies that provide links to other sites containing relevant data to a particular subject. These metasite web databases are organized around one subject, such as science, technology, news, games and other search engines. Another kind of metasite for web databases is a search engine site that runs multiple search engines. An example of this kind of web database is dogpile.com, which uses Google and other top search engines for random searches on the web.
Keeping Track of Data
Web databases store information in record and index structures. The record structure is visible to users, while the index structure is typically not available for users to browse. A number of web databases use artificial intelligence to handle updates to links. When a source of data moves to a new location on the Internet, the artificial intelligence changes the hyperlink's address to match the new destination. Other web databases use link-checking programs that must be manually run by a web database administrator. Links to metasites, journals and other records are listed in the heading of most online databases. The difficulty with the information provided in these headings is that the links tend not to show when they were last updated. The web database's main page typically displays the site having been updated the previous year. Check the subsidiary pages for a more accurate display of when web data and links have been updated. Use the information on the subsidiary pages for citing references in your research.
Systems and Languages
The most common web databases are MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Postgre SQL, IBM DB2 and HSQLDB. The platforms web databases run on are Windows, Linux, Unix, and Solaris. Preprocessor hypertext (PHP) scripting language is used to create web databases (PHP runs on the server and not the browser). Learn to use PHP, because it enables web databases to run on multiple operating systems. PHP handles all requests from the web browser, so you won't have to hassle with heavy hypertext markup language (HTML) when you create your web pages.

How to Make Money Hosting PC Game ServersIn Feburary 2016 16,

In Feburary 2016 16,
Decide on the type of server you want to use. You can use your computer as a server, but once you shut down the computer, no one can use it. A dedicated server is in use 24-7 and will be unavailable for your own personal use.
Find a game to host by contacting developers or programmers working on games. If you want to court a large company like Blizzard, then you need to have large servers that can host a large-scale game. If you plan on courting a small company, then you don't need such a large system.
Figure out how you plan to charge. If you are working with a large company, they will likely lease your servers for their game; that will be the primary source of revenue. If you host a small scale or even local game, then you can charge people a monthly fee to play.
Create your pay-for-access system by working with your Internet service provider or hosting company. They both have the ability to set up a username and password system for either a membership section of your website, which you can provide access to your server, or directly with the server itself for a limited time. This will give only paying customers access to the server and the game.
Publicize your gaming space. If you are hosting a local game, then you will need to publicize your business in order to get people to come and play the game. The most common ways of publicizing products are advertising, social media and news coverage.
Upgrade the servers when needed. If you want to continue making money, then you will need to upgrade your servers when the number of people gets too large or the games take up too much memory on the server.

How Do I Offer a Giveaway on My Blog?In Feburary 2016 13,

In Feburary 2016 13,
Giveaways differ in the way winners are chosen and in the laws by which they are governed. A prize giveaway where winners are chosen at random is known as a “sweepstakes,” the most common type of blog giveaway. In a “contest,” winners are chosen based on some skill or merit. In a “lottery,” an entrant must pay for a chance to win. Before beginning your giveaway, read up on the laws to ensure compliance.
Prize Selection
For your promotion to perform well, your prize should be aligned to your blog audience and be something people really want. Buy the item yourself or team up with a company to provide the prize. Register your blog at Giveaway.ly, for example, and you can accept offers from advertisers interested in co-hosting promotions. You can also make money from the giveaway by charging the sponsor a small fee.
Set-up and Management
Write a post announcing your giveaway. Include prize details, entry requirements, eligibility information, giveaway dates, how the winner will be chosen and how the prize is to be claimed. Customize your entry form using sites such as Giveaway.ly, Rafflecopter, PunchTab and Giveaway Tools. Each one provides an embeddable widget that automates the entire giveaway process, from collecting entries and site statistics to choosing and announcing a winner. Entry options can be as simple as leaving a comment on a post. You can also give entrants the option for “bonus” entries by having them like a sponsor’s Facebook page or subscribe to a newsletter. In addition, it’s a good idea to set up an email so that entrants can inform you of any technical issues they encounter or questions they have.
Promotion and Conclusion
Remind people about the giveaway often through social media, starting with your own and friends’ networks. Ask your sponsor to help spread the word. In addition, tap into your blog community. Bloggers in similar niches often like to run giveaway “linkys” where you can post the link to your giveaway. When the sweepstakes period ends, the giveaway widget picks the winner. Notify the winner and make an announcement on your blog. The sponsor is typically responsible for shipping the prize within a certain period of time and paying all shipping costs.
Sponsor Follow-Up
Let sponsors know the outcome of the giveaway by providing key site statistics, such as how many visitors you received and other information collected by the giveaway widget. Thank the sponsor for participating in the giveaway and forward the winner’s name and contact information. This builds good relationships with sponsors and creates a potential for future opportunities when they see the value in working with you.

How to Start a Sports WebsiteIn Feburary 2016 04,

In Feburary 2016 04,
Choose a web hosting company that offers the ability to stream video for websites. There are many hosting companies to choose from (see Resources). Avoid free web hosting companies, as most don't offer enough storage space for the uploading sports media and will also use your website for their advertisements.
Select a domain name. It's a good idea to create a domain related to sports and is easy for people to remember. Check to see if the domain name is still available. There will be different top-level domain options to choose from. If you plan to sell products or advertisements on your website, go with .com for commercial. If your website is based on an organization, such as a soccer league, choose .org.
Design your sports website using the built-in design tools offered by your hosting company. Some hosting companies, like GoDaddy, will charge you a small fee to use their site builder, while other hosting companies, like Yahoo! Web Hosting, have free design tools to help create your website with no experience necessary.
Consider buying a professional sports template. This will help make your website stand out, without the worry of website designing. You will, however, still need to publish content, upload media and insert links. Ask your hosting company how to install a website template into the web host so it appears on the Internet when you publish the site.
Create sports-related content. Write biographies of famous players. Upload photos of sports events. Upload audio content of sports experts talking about the latest sports news. Upload video content from YouTube or other video sites on sports- related material to make your site more interesting. Add a poll asking sports fans' opinions about the latest deal. Install a forum that allows people to have conversations with each other, or a comment box underneath each post so people can comment about the latest news.
Consider adding a sports widget application to your site. A widget is a application that you can put into your blog or web page to allow for new updates, such as real-time scores, directly to your website. Doing this can make your site more attractive, deliver the most recent news, and get your visitors to stay around longer.
Review your website. Check to see if there are any problems that slow down the loading of your website. Make sure your links are placed in the right place, preferably right on top so your visitors know where to navigate when they first visit your website. Check to see if your website browser is compatible---it should look good in Internet Explorer as well as Mozilla Firefox. Select a font that looks professional. Comic Sans or bright green will make the site look amateurish. Proofread any content text for grammar and punctuation errors. Publish your content when you are finished reviewing and ready to make your website available for people to visit.

How to Have a Dodgeball FundraiserIn Feburary 2016 03,

In Feburary 2016 03,
Select an organization or cause that your fundraiser will benefit. A fundraiser can be used to raise money for a charity that is not involved in planning the event or can be run by an organization, such as a sports team, to raise money for the organization or a specific cause.
Calculate the costs to host and run the event as well as the amount of money you expect to raise, and determine what percentage of the funds will go toward overhead costs and what will go to the organization.
Select a location for your fundraiser, being sure it will accommodate an event of your desired size. Attempting to force a large event into a small venue will lead to cramped spacing and a hectic atmosphere.
Pick a date for the event, making sure that your desired location is available on that date.
Establish the rules for the tournament, including the number of players on a team, the type of balls to be used and the format of the tournament.
Set an entry fee for teams to help build the amount of money you want to raise from the event.
Contact local stores and inquire about sponsorship through gift donations. The gifts donated can then be raffled off during the event or awarded as prizes, based on achievement, during the event to encourage enrollment and spectator attendance.
Advertise the event with posters that clearly detail who or what the fundraiser will benefit, how teams can register, as well as the cost and obligation of participation.
Collect registration forms and fees from all teams prior to the event so you know how many teams for which you must plan.
Schedule the matches in the fundraising tournament, including both time and court numbers if multiple courts are used.
Assign roles to volunteers helping to run the fundraiser. Common needs for a dodgeball tournament include referees, score keepers and other individuals to work the doors if admission is charged or to sell snacks and drinks.
Record the results of all matches as the tournament progresses.
Distribute the funds to the charity or organization benefiting from the event.
