Free Alternatives to cPanelIn Feburary 2016 26,

In Feburary 2016 26,
Webmin provides an open source hosting control panel that provides many of the same features that you would find through cPanel, such as disk and bandwidth usage, website backups, scheduled cron jobs, system logs, SSH access, and support for MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. Webmin is also incredibly customizable, just like cPanel, so if you are reselling server space on a machine with webmin, you can brand it to your own company.Three major differences that set Webmin apart (and some believe, above) cPanel are the expansion of Webmin via modules, Usermin, and Virtualmin. Through Webmin modules, you can further expand Webmin's usage, and because Webmin is a free control panel, there are hundreds of 3rd party modules that others have created as well. Usermin and Virtualmin provide extended usability through webmail and domain hosting integration.
Easy Hosting Control Panel
Easy Hosting Control Panel (EHCP) is a web hosting control panel that is offered by a variety of hosting providers and available to you for free. Though EHCP is branded as the easiest option for web hosting, it does not include all the options that cPanel does. However, for a simple and effective solution, EHCP does work well for the following features: domain management, email management, FTP setup, subdomain management, MySQL and phpMyAdmin support, and one-click installations of Joomla, Forums, Drupal, b2evolution, Wordpress, and more. The only real downside to using EHCP is the lack of support on their website. However, because so many 3rd parties create modules for EHCP, other websites (as well as EHCP's forums) may be able to offer assistance to the most common issues.
GNUPanel
GNUPanel is a viable competitor for cPanel, with one minor difference: GNUPanel only works for the Debian OS. While Debian is a pretty popular Linux distro that runs on PHP5, you may need to double check with certain web hosting providers to ensure they can support it.However, despite this small shortcoming, GNUPanel can help you manage nearly everything you can through cPanel but without the cost. Through GNUPanel, you can manage your web hosting server, email, databases, FTP accounts, protect directories, park domains, accept online payments, and more. GNUPanel also comes with support for webmail, mailing lists, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, and the Quanta web development environment. Essentially, it is one of the leading cPanel competitors because of its long list of features. However, like EHCP, the support is unfortunately lacking.
SysCP
Another big free competitor for cPanel, SysCP is unlike the others in that it provides a large and extensive knowledge base and how-to support system via its main website. Because SysCP works with nearly every Linux distro, your web hosting provider is very likely to support it as an installable control panel option instead of cPanel. Plus, like EHCP, SysCP offers many 3rd party modules, so there is always room for expansion.SysCP includes the following features, which are very similar to cPanel's offerings: reseller and customer administrative settings, email and FTP management, billing and ticketing systems, SaaS application installers, newsletter options, logging and error page management, support for SpamAssassin and webmail, and more.
Expert Insight
In reviewing your options for free alternatives to cPanel, always try the control panel's demo if they offer one. All of the free control panels mentioned here offer demo interfaces that you can instantly view and work in. That way, you can play around in the control panel and ensure it is both efficient and works for exactly what you need. Testing all the features and ensuring there is a good support community for the product are two of the most important things to consider when making your final choice.

Easy Ways to Put Together a WebsiteIn Feburary 2016 22,

In Feburary 2016 22,
Think about the message you want to present before you begin. Think about the content you want to include and where it will come from. You might be writing your own articles and using your own pictures. If you are designing a website for your business, you'll need to decide how you're going to take payment for your product or service. Take a look at the websites you like and don't like. Decide why these websites are enjoyable or what about them frustrates you. Design your website accordingly.
Building Your Website
There are several options for building your website. You don't need expensive web design software or a lot of HTML knowledge. You can find a free WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) web design program that works like a word processor. These programs allow you to insert your text and graphics, while the program generates the HTML code for you. CoffeeCup is a free HTML editor. Adobe's Dreamweaver is a good choice for complex web design made easy, but the software can be an expensive option for beginners. If you will be posting photos and graphics to your website, photo editing software is something else you want to consider. You can use a program like Picasa, XnView or Photofiltre (see resources). These are graphic editing tools you can use to prepare your images for the web. They each have extensive editing features and are reliable programs.
Web Hosting Services
Another option for putting together a website easily is to sign up for a free hosting account (see resources). These web hosts not only allow you to display your web pages on the Internet free of charge, they feature built-in tools that make it easy for you to design and build your website. When you use web tools built in to your web hosting service, you don't need to worry about additional software to upload your pages. Your changes are saved and displayed immediately. Many paid web hosting services offer a wider range of web tools to help you design your website easily, as well as shopping carts for e-commerce. These features are included in the package price, along with free domain name registration. Startlogic is a reliable company with a long track record and an extensive, easy-to-use design tool set.For users who want to do business from their websites, Paypal is the easiest way. With a business account at Paypal, you can generate HTML code for your website that will add 'Buy It Now' buttons to the products or services you feature on your website. A Paypal account is free and easy to set up.
Blogs
A blog, which is a shortened version of the term web log, is an alternative you can use to create a website. Blog sites are typically free and easy to set up. Rather than use traditional website structures, blogs are usually column based and primarily text. You can use graphics on blog sites, but the primary goal of a blog is to allow users to make a 'log' of the events going on in their lives, their personal opinions, or to promote a business or service. WordPress and Blogger are two reliable blog sites. The tools offered by these blog sites are simple to use and free of charge.

How to Create Flash Video AdsIn Feburary 2016 21,

In Feburary 2016 21,
Determine the size of your ad space and set the Stage dimensions of your Flash project file to the matching specifications of your ad. Most online ads fall within the 100-200-pixel range, but this will vary dramatically based on the site where your ad will be placed. Go to 'Modify' and 'Document' and set your project dimensions. Flash also provides templates with multiple sizes often used for ads and can be implemented by selecting the 'Template' option when the 'New File' dialogue window appears.
Add any text or external graphics to your ad, such as a logo or tag line for your business. To use a logo or graphic created outside of Flash, import the file to your Library and drag the graphic onto your Stage in the appropriate location. Go to 'File' and 'Import to Library' and choose your graphic from the dialogue boxes.
Place your video file on your Internet server by uploading the Flash video file to your server using an FTP connection, or File Transfer Protocol. Make note of the exact location of the file to place in Flash during the import video stage.
Import your video onto the Stage to build the core element of your ad. Go to 'File' and 'Import to Stage' and follow the dialogue windows as they locate your video file from your server's URL address and import the movie into Flash. Be sure your movie is in the Flash video format of FLV before embedding the file into the project.
Select the 'skin' for your Flash player from the dialogue window for importing your video. The type of skin you choose will be based on how you want people to interact with your ad. If you would like them to have to play the video on the ad, be sure to choose a skin with a play button. Most online video ads have no controls, so select the no-skin setting to achieve this effect.
Save your project file as an FLA for your archive and future editing. The FLA will not be placed online but will be needed to make any edits or adjustments.
Go to 'File' and 'Publish Settings' and deselect the HTML option. Be sure the Flash option is selected and publish the file. This action will produce the SWF necessary to post your video ad online. Once the SWF is created, it will function as a graphic file and can be added to your website or blog just as you would add a digital image or graphic.

How to Reserve Domain Names with No Hosting ServiceIn Feburary 2016 16,

In Feburary 2016 16,
First, find out if your domain name is available...
You can check if a domain name is available by doing a simple search of the term 'check domain availability' and several tools and sites will be listed. If the desired domain name is available you can move on to the next step. If it is not available you should do another search to on whois.net to find out when it will expire within your needed time frame. Repeat this step until you find a domain name that will work.
Next, Do a comparison of domain name pricing...
Do a comparison of companies that offer the option to purchase or reserve a domain name. By purchasing an available domain name you will reserve that address for a website at some point in time. If the domain name is not available and you would like to reserve it in case it expires you will have additional fees. Since you are not looking at a hosting service you do not need to compare features. In this step you are just comparing pricing to reserve or purchase a domain name.
Then, reserve the domain name but don't get a hosting service to save money...
After you choose a company make sure they have a domain name reservation option, so that you can just reserve or purchase the domain name. Unless you are ready to put up a website you do not need hosting with your domain name. A domain name with a hosting service will cost much more per year so save the money until you are ready to build a website.
Last, keep your domain name account current and active...
Domain names often expire without owners knowing. If you have hosting services you get constant reminders but as the owner of a domain name it is your responsibility to keep track of it. Consider signing up for recurring billing to ensure that you don't lose the domain name. Without an organized system or recurring billing you may lose the rights to a domain name you wanted to reserve. Continue to do this step so when you are ready to build your website the domain name will be good to go.

How to Sell Homemade FurnitureIn Feburary 2016 15,

In Feburary 2016 15,
For most craftspeople, initial sales come from their local area, such as neighbors that spot a chair you made and want one for themselves. That market will probably dry up quickly, but it provides you an opportunity to build some word-of-mouth marketing. You can also place ads in the local paper or in publications that cater to handcrafted items. Another option is to print brochures and catalogs to distribute at local handmade craft stores, fairs and shows. Craft shows that judge the best designers are especially effective because they give you access to customers as well as a chance to win awards that bolster your credibility.
Online Sales
The Internet offers multiple options for you to sell your furniture. A dedicated website that features images of your furniture, prices and contact info gives you access to the global marketplace. Be sure you have a secure payment processing system in place so it's easy for customers to conduct transactions. You can also sell through craft or auction sites such as Etsy or eBay. These sites typically provide the website infrastructure and payment processing, but also hit you with commission or processing fees.
